What is the Dean’s Hour?

The Dean’s Hour is a lecture and seminar series featuring faculty, high achieving students, and an array of engaged citizens from Baltimore and the surrounding regions.

The Dean’s Hour comprises both the Student Research Symposium and the Bard Colloquium speaker series (see descriptions below), and its purpose is twofold:

  1. Help students build habits of learning and scholarship; and
  2. Provide an outlet for faculty and student work, as well as opportunity to intellectually engage with thinkers and citizens in our immediate community.

If you are interested in being a guest speaker or know someone in the community who would be willing to volunteer their time and give a talk, please email Dr. Helene Coccagna.

Research Symposium

The Research Symposium is a celebration of students’ hard work and creation of new knowledge, in which they share their own information research with the community. Students who have turned in outstanding work on a research assignment are nominated by their teachers, and if selected, those students are given the opportunity to revise and refine their papers, and to prepare a presentation. As stated above, participation in the symposium fosters the habits of learning and scholarship.

Schedule

*Unless otherwise specified, all presentations are scheduled on a Thursday and will take place in the Library.
