Mr. Showalter joins the Bard Baltimore leadership team after serving as the school’s academic interventionist. Mr. Showalter has almost twenty years of experience in K-12 education in a variety of educational environments including a K-8 school in Chicago’s West Side, a British senior school in Greece, a high school for emotionally disturbed adolescents, and for eight years with high schools the Baltimore City Public Schools. Mr. Showalter had the honor of being appointed by the Baltimore Teachers Union as the only teacher on the Maryland Commission on Innovation and Excellence in Education, also known as the Kirwan Commission. In 2021 the recommendations of the Commission became the landmark legislation known as The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.

Lyn graduated from PAFA (Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts) with a MFA in Studio Art and a BFA in Ceramics from Towson University. Lyn believes that every child/young adult deserves the opportunity to succeed. She believes that test scores and past behaviors aren’t always the absolute indicator of a child’s/young adult success. If they are willing to put in the hard work, Lyn is willing to invest and support them wholly on their journey to academic and social success.

Rachel Wasserman serves BHSEC Baltimore as the school’s library media specialist. Ms. Wasserman is a Baltimore native, and among her goals for the library is to increase students’ information literacy and research skills, and also to encourage students to read for pleasure. In addition, Ms. Wasserman maintains the school archives, co-coordinates the Deans’ Hour speaker series, and organizes the Research Symposium in which students present their own work. Please check out the school library website! In her free time, Ms. Wasserman enjoys running, sewing, travel, making home videos and book trailers, and playing with her dog Brucie Springsteen.
